OnlyFans, the new Instagram for camgirls

If you’re active on social media you’ll have heard about OnlyFans. The platform has gained massively in popularity since its creation. It’s success stems from it’s lack of restrictions on nudity. It has naturally become the social media platform of choice for camgirls.

You probably have a private Facebook account, or even a page. You might also be on Twitter or Snapchat. TikTok is fun. And OnlyFans brings in cash, on top of your camming platform. As a camgirl, you know very well that any additional income is welcome. Especially when it’s easy. So, if you don’t know this community yet, let’s have a look together.

What is OnlyFans?

It’s a social media platform where you can post videos and photos. And sell it all to your fans. As a result, influencers and celebrities rushed in, taking their hordes of fans with them. This explains the rapid success enjoyed by OnlyFans.

The camgirl and porn sectors followed suit. Since nudity is allowed, it’s therefore possible to sell the content you want to your subscribers. It has even become the backbone of the social network created by the Brit Tim Stokely in 2016.

Called the “Instagram of porn”, OnlyFans describes itself as “a subscription site which allows content creators to monetise their influence.” Although you can follow fitness and yoga teachers with their sculpted figures, pranksters, or actresses from Bollywood or Hollywood, the majority of OnlyFans “creators” instead sell… their nudity. This is in the form of erotic, or even pornographic, photos and videos.

You can understand it immediately, just by looking at the site’s logo. Especially the padlock. Exclusive content to be unlocked with a credit card. There’s no doubt as to the social network’s goal here.

A social network that pays

Another point that differentiates the platform from other social networks is its subscription mechanism. Here, in order to access your content, your fans will have to put their hands in their pockets. Fans are required to subscribe to “creator” accounts, paying between €4.20 and €42 per month (from US $4.99 to US $49.99), the precise amount being defined by each creator in question.

Once this first transaction has been settled, the subscriber will be able to access your content. They will also be able to trade with you and send you private messages. The platform takes a 20% commission on subscriptions before paying the remaining 80% to the 850,000 “creators” in its network.

You can therefore immediately see why the platform is so interesting and why you should be interested in being on it. Especially when you see the amounts that some people can earn in a day with a single photo or video. Bella Thorne, for example.

The Bella Thorne scandal has changed the game

If you don’t know her, she’s a former Disney actress. Actress, celeb, sometimes singer, she likes to create scandal, like Miley Cyrus (also Disney). So, she signed up on OnlyFans in order to sell content to her fans. She promised a naked photo of herself. Except that… When she unveiled her photo, she was in a swimming costume. The catch? She had collected more than 1 million dollars in one day since her announcement. The disappointment of the fans was enormous and they cried scandal.

This pushed the creators to set limits. $200 instead of $500 maximum in tips per day, and payment after a month instead of a week. Camgirls and porn actresses/actresses saw a big drop in their income as a result. Bella Thorne may apologise, but she has had a very negative impact on many people.

Almost 25 million users worldwide

The social network now boasts more than 25 million users around the world and 350,000 creators to follow. The site, which does not have a mobile app at the moment, has gained in popularity since lockdown. “Registrations jumped by 75% in the month of March,” say the platform’s managers. Stars such as Clara Morgane, Cardi B, Blac Chyna or Bella Thorne, and huge influencers have popularised the social network in recent months.

“At first, I was dead set against the idea of signing up. I was scared for my reputation. But I went for it and it was worth it right away, it took instantly. Since then, that’s all I’ve been doing,” says Clément Castelli, 26, who has taken part in several reality TV shows, including Les Marseillais South Africa.

The influencer Polska also joined the platform. She aroused a lot of reactions on social networks by announcing on the 10th of August that she was earning the tidy sum of 10,000 euros per month by selling her photos on OnlyFans. Enough to encourage Internet users to join her…

The impact of lockdown on camgirls

During lockdown, the platform took on another dimension with the arrival of many sex workers, who migrated online to secure their income. Actors and actresses stuck in lockdown have opened accounts to secure some income during the crisis, by filming videos or taking photoshoots at home. This is the case of Mistress Evilyne, a “dominatrix” who had modest success on the adult platform. According to her, “an account on this service can easily earn up to 900 euros per month”, which is often supplemented by content on other sites, such as Clips4Sale or iWantClips.

The lockdown was a fruitful time for Blanche Saint-Pierre, alias Darkphoenixx. In three months, the daring content creator has risen to become one of OnlyFans’ most popular content creators and is now earning a salary of around $50,000 per month. After losing her job at an Archambault shop due to lockdown, Blanche Saint-Pierre began producing pornographic photos and videos on her own. “I’ve always wanted to make porn, but I didn’t know where to start,” says Blanche Saint-Pierre, for whom OnlyFans represents a way of directing her own career. The gamble paid off.

Age verification in question

As nudity is common on the network, under-18s are supposed to be banned. A light age check is required but easy to get around. Faced with the denunciations of some accusing the platform of having many underage subscribers, the platform wants to become more professional.

It hopes to improve its user age verification measures. At present, the site requires a double age verification by asking for a passport photo and a scan of an ID card. But according to some web users, this measure could be very easy to circumvent. Some software such as Go.cam is being developed to help with this step, which is often a digital priority for many countries.

So, now you know a bit more about OnlyFans. If you want to increase your income freely, legally, wherever you are, you have a solution. It’s also an easy way to make more money while being on your camming platform. Great, isn’t it?!
